Introducing OnRewards: Peer recognition and rewards management application.

Building a strong organizational culture is challenging, and it becomes even more difficult in a modern distributed workforce. At Onward, we understand this challenge and have developed a suite of value-based, cost-effective, and frictionless applications to help engage and energize the evolving global workforce. Our first application, OnRewards, is a peer recognition and rewards management application that is tailored for service delivery teams.

One of the most significant challenges we faced in our previous entrepreneurial journey, SpringML, was maintaining our unique culture as we grew. When we scaled to close to 500 employees, we often missed the chance encounters and conversations that occurred in an office setting. We tried to fill this gap by using various online tools and apps and even hired a full-time employee programs coordinator. However, in remote and hybrid work environments, it can be difficult to create meaningful connections between employees and the company.

OnRewards helps build strong relationships amongst peers by allowing timely peer-to-peer recognition. A team that is grateful towards each other correlates to a team that trusts each other. It also provides ways to add humor and creativity to appreciation messages, spurs conversation threads by involving other team members, and encourages employees to revisit memories created within the organization. Stories and anecdotes are an integral part of a company’s memory and culture.

Three reasons for managers to bring OnRewards into their organizations

  1. Build stronger relationships amongst peers: Employees can give points to each other in recognition of their contribution. This will be done in a manner that’s visible to other employees in the company so that others can add on to the contribution i.e., visible in Jira tickets, activity feed, or Atlas feeds (when Forge supports it).

  2. Add humor and creativity to appreciation messages: OnRewards provides ways to add humor and creativity to appreciation messages and spurs conversation threads by involving other team members.

  3. Encourage employees to revisit memories created within the organization: Employees can read about the anecdotes or stories and then join the conversation.

How OnRewards works

The company allocates a certain number of points that employees can give each other. An employee can then give points to another employee in recognition of their contribution. Employees can redeem their received points for a gift card from popular retailers or redeem for a custom reward that the company may have set up.

Apart from employee-to-employee rewards, this app can also be used by the company to reward milestones or incentivize good behavior. Milestones such as work anniversaries, birthdays can be configured so that awards are automatically given when such employees reach a milestone. Another fun feature includes giving an award to the winner of an automated trivia or Wordle game, the answer to which ties to a company memory or an anecdote.
